グランプリ・シーンに特化した“Racing Pictorial Series by HIRO”の第48 弾は、リント亡き後、若きエマーソン・フィッティパルディをエースに据えたチーム・ロータスが、新体制２年目を迎えて漆黒に金のカラースキームに衣替えした1972 年にフォーカス。
前年不振に終わったエマーソンはこの年弱冠25 歳。若きエースはタイプ72 の改良型である“72D”を駆り、史上最年少で見事にチャンピオンとなります。
この号は1972 年のパート1 とし、ロータス、マクラーレン、サーティース、BRM、マトラ、テクノの各チームを収録致します。チャンピオン・マシーンであるロータス72 に関しては、既刊で特集しておりますが、極力未使用の写真を選びながら、シーズン全体が概ね俯瞰できるようダイジェスト的にまとめました。
他のチーム、マシーンに関する写真は、全て当シリーズ初出のものとなります。コントラストが絶妙なモノクロ撮影によるディテール写真も多く、マシーンの資料性の観点からは非常に充実した内容となる予定です。特に資料の少ないマクラーレン、マトラ、テクノ等の写真は非常に貴重と思われます。
JPS 元年となった1972 年、当初その大胆なカラーリングを纏ったロータス72Dは“走る棺桶”と揶揄されたとも伝えられていますが、不世出の才能に加えて強運に恵まれたエマーソン・フィッティパルディのコンスタントな操縦により、やがてはグランプリを象徴する漆黒の名機と賞賛されるに至ります。
1960 年代と訣別し、本当の意味での新時代が幕を開けた1972 年のグランプリ、その生々しい息づかいを、ジョー・ホンダ渾身の写真でお楽しみください！

■JOE HONDA Racing Pictorial Series by HIRO No.48 "Grand Prix 1972 PART-01"
The issue No. 48 of the "Racing Pictorial Series by HIRO" will be featuring 1972 Grand Prix, the year which the ace driver Emerson Fittipaldi dominated the trophy stand, and his Team Lotus started the second year which they changed the team colour to the brilliant black and gold.
Emerson turned 25 when he finished the Grand Prix in the previous year with a not so satisfactory result. Then he became the youngest champion of 1972 at that time, when he changed to drive the new 72D (improved from the prior type 72).
This issue will be the Part One of the 1972 season. Teams like Lotus, McLaren, Surtees, BRM, Matra, Techno will be included in this issue, in order to review the whole season. The champion machine Lotus 72, we will choose unpublished photos as many as possible, as the machine already featured in a separated issue.
For photos of other teams and machines will be all unpublished pictures, and the monochrome pictures will be presented in tremendous amount of details. This will be one of the best issues in terms of information. Especially the photos of McLaren, Matra and Techno will be precious.
1972 was to be recognized as the starting year of JPS. Although the revolutionary colouring of the black-gold Lotus 72D was being named "the flying coffin", it become one of the hall of fame machine because of the great performance of not only the machine, and also the talented driver Emerson Fittipaldi.
